braille, or talking watches

okay, what one do you prefer and why?

i like the talking watches, as

1:. you can just press a button and it will tell you the time.

2: the hands are imposible to move (unlike braille watches, they are to delicate. one tuch, and they move)

3: i think hourly time anouncements, and alarms, are both very handy features.

but yeah, debate. i think there will be a lot to say

Once again, you have started a topic that has already had quite a long discussion on the boards with around 60 replies.

Daniel, we tried to tell you in quick notes that there has already been a board posted for this, and with almost if not an identical topic title. why don't you fucking listen.

oh well the toppic's already made guys so shut up about it...
anyways...
I prefer braille.
1. because they don't make noise
2. because there smaller.
3. just because they're better.

It's all personal opinion. I like Braille watches, just because you don't have to announce to everybody within earshot what the time is, though the alarm would come in handy. Does anyone know if there's a Braille watch with an alarm?

Post 6 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Sunday, 22-Apr-2007 9:45:20

There're no braille watches with alarms. I've just tried another braille watch, but the minute hand wriggled its, way loose yet again, so I have to send it back to Rnib yet again.

I swear I've seen this subject somewhere else in these message boards.

I like talking watches.

and also, braille watches are less conspicuous. if I spelled that right.

Yes, that's correct

I prefer braille watches, just my opinion. They don't make noise. Thanks for bringing up this topic.

I tried a braille watch and found that it was hard to use. I prefer talking watches

Post 13 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 15-Feb-2008 10:57:17

I prefer braille watches. Ihave about 5 or 6 talking watches and they've all just about run out of batteries or too annoying. I've had this braille watch for nearly a year and it's good. At least tey don't tell the whole room what time it is. Hahaha. I have seen on the independent living website which is based in America a couple of braille and talking watches combined. I don't know how good they are because I haven't tried anything like that, but there was 1 with just 1 button and 1 with 4 buttons I think. I guess the watch with 4 buttons and braille on it would have some kind of alarm. I'll put a link to the whole website so people can see what's on there anyway.

Oh, I would but don't know how to put links in.

I prefer braille watches to. I do wish they did make one with an alarm. though.

Post 15 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 12:17:14

Braille. That way, the entire room doesn't know when I check the time.

Well, my preference is for the braille watch, however there are times when the talking watch is valuable. I know someone who straps her watch to the treadmill handle, and when she wants to know the time, she just presses the button, and doesn't loose stride. If I'm outside for longer periods of time, my fingers get numb, making the braille watch useless.

I'd say braille all the way. You don't let your boss know that you want out of work so easy, or offend your teacher or acidently turn on hourly anouncement and horify a colegue or classmate giving a speech. They look much nicer usually. They're generally more professional.

Talking watches for me. I don't like the loud bong sound but there are some that are quieter.

Post 19 by ArtRock1224 (move over school!) on Sunday, 17-Feb-2008 14:02:33

Quickly put your hand over the face of the watch, press down (the speaker is on the underside,) and quietly hold the watch up to your ear when you need to hear the time. It completely muffles the sound, and it takes all of two seconds to do. Believe me, I'm the kind of person that hates disrupting a class or meeting; trust me, it works.

braille all the way. though I like that idea for discretely checking the time with a talking watch. I was once away with someone who insisted in pressing the button to check the time every minute. since then my aversion to them has been absolute.

Post 21 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 13:53:43

What was the point of pressing the watch every minute?

Post 22 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Tuesday, 19-Feb-2008 17:55:52

Some of the blind events I attended there were always people who pressed their talking watch buttons five times a minute. Come on people. You are anoying the rest of us. I prefer braille watches because they look like a normal watch and you can check the time anytime during class without heads turning.

Post 23 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 22-Feb-2008 4:58:33

I look at my braille watch all the time and pressing the talking watch all the time would just drain the battery.

Post 24 by singingsensation (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 30-Mar-2008 22:09:16

It would definitely drain the battery. Why would someone want to check it every minute? Or even press it five or more times a minute? That's crazy!

Post 25 by EbonyMoon187 (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 31-Mar-2008 4:04:20

omg, i seriously can't believe this topic is up...again?
sorry, but, this, in my short time of being here is the second i've seen. lol
but, as for me, brale all the way. Just better in all ways, and, i have my phone for the alarm, so, that solvs everything. Though, a brale watch with like a brale display for the face would be kinda funky.

Some people who aren't used to looking at those old clocks with the hands would have trouble reading a brail watch. I've also seen the old fashion Braille clock. Those alarm clocks that aren't used much now. At one point I had one. It had a loud old fashion bell ringing. I can't remember if I gave it to someone or I lost it. I wonder if they still make those. I guess so since they still have old fashion clocks you can buy.

Post 27 by singingsensation (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 31-Mar-2008 10:55:04

I'm sure they would.

Post 28 by billybats (Account disabled) on Monday, 31-Mar-2008 11:42:37

we're spoiled nowadays with digital clocks. So that's why I wasn't sure whether the old ones could be found. Surely they exist as I sure a sun dial watch probably does, but the majority of people do not use them.
